LMU University Hospital Munich

Institute of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the LMU University Hospital Munich is a centre of high-end medicine, medical innovation and research. With its two campuses in Grosshadern and in the city centre, it is one of the largest hospitals in Germany and Europe. Every year, around 500,000 patients are treated in 29 specialist clinics, twelve institutes from seven departments, and 50 interdisciplinary centres throughout Munich. The Institute of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine is one of these centres which serves not only patients in Germany but also supports healthcare services for patients in low- and middle-income countries, with particular focus in sub-Saharan Africa. Led by Prof. M. Hoeslcher, the Institute was established through collaborations and close research partnerships continuing to this day in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Ghana, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, The Gambia, and Uganda. The mission of the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine is to improve prevention and treatment of infectious and tropical diseases. It aims at achieving this goal through clinical research, translation of evidence into improved services and policies, and transfer of knowledge.

Jimma University

Jimma University

Hirsch Institute of Tropical Medicine  

 Arsi University is located in the historic town of Asella in the Oromia Regional State of Ethiopia—175 km southeast of the capital, Addis Ababa. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), located in Kumasi, Ghana, was officially established in 1952, evolving from the Kumasi College of Technology founded in 1951. It was named after Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in recognition of his vision for higher education and scientific advancement. Today, KNUST is one of Africa’s leading science and technology universities, with a student population exceeding 85,000. Guided by its motto “Nyansapɔ wɔsane no badwenma” (“The knot of wisdom is untied only by the wise”), the university has become a hub for innovation, research, and professional training across diverse disciplines. Within this vibrant academic environment, the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) was established in 1975 to address Ghana’s growing need for medical professionals. Initially, SMS offered a three‑year Bachelor of Science in Human Biology as a foundation for advanced medical training. Over time, it specialized in producing physicians and medical scientists, while allied health programs were transferred to other faculties. SMS is deeply committed to community‑based medical education, ensuring students gain practical exposure to healthcare delivery in Ghanaian communities. It also plays a central role in postgraduate training, supporting fellowship and membership programs under the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the West African Postgraduate Medical College. KNUST and SMS embody a shared mission: advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and preparing graduates to meet Ghana’s healthcare and development needs. Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital

St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College 

Saint Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) is a rapidly growing Medical college with a high potential to excel in research. The hospital was established in 1968 and the Medical College was opened in 2007 as part of the hospital. The college is the first to implement integrated modular and hybrid problem based curriculum for its undergraduate Medical students’ in Ethiopia.  SPHMMC is establishing itself as a national benchmark for integrated clinical, educational, and research activities fostering international partnerships that enhance medical services and facilitate academic exchanges St Paul’s hospital is a tertiary level teaching hospital in Ethiopia providing comprehensive, high-quality care to over 2,000 patients each day at emergency, outpatient, inpatient departments, and specialized clinics. The inpatient capacity of the hospital is 700 beds and it is one of few renal transplant centers in the country. The hospital is also giving specialized medical services like cancer, dialysis and in vitro fertilization treatments.

University Hospital Düsseldorf (UKD)

The University Hospital Düsseldorf of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, is one of Germany’s leading academic medical centers and provides comprehensive tertiary medical care and maintains a strong commitment to research-driven clinical excellence. With numerous specialized departments and research institutes, UKD plays a central role in translating biomedical discoveries into improved diagnostics, therapeutics, and preventive strategies. Its integration of patient care, research, and teaching ensures an environment conducive to high-impact scientific innovation.    Within UKD, the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases is nationally and internationally recognized for its contributions to both clinical and basic biomedical research. The department’s interdisciplinary teams—trained in medicine, biology, biochemistry, and nutritional sciences—conduct research at the interface of fundamental science and clinical application. Their work is characterized by a strong translational orientation, reflected in numerous publications in high-ranking journals and participation in multinational research consortia.
