Field Insights from Jimma
The LMU team visited with Overall Study PI Prof. Dr. Esayas Kebede Gudina and the Jimma University research team for an on-site exchange at the Jimma Medical Center (JMC), aimed at strengthening collaboration for the upcoming study. During the visit, the teams toured several hospital wards, allowing the LMU researchers to better understand the real-life clinical environment. The discussions focused on current hygiene practices and practical challenges faced by staff, helping both teams identify which interventions could be most useful and feasible in routine care.
In addition to the ward visits, the group visited the Jimma University Clinical Trial Unit, microbiology lab and received a tour from Prof. Sultan Suleman in his pharmacology laboratory to gain insight into the site's capacities. The visit highlighted the lab’s capacity for detecting microbial pathogens and performing drug monitoring, both of which are essential for supporting the study. The exchange provided valuable context for the research plans and helped align expectations between the collaborating teams as the project moves forward.
