In preparation for the study, the team from LMU visited with Dr. Alex Owusu-Ofori and his team for an on-site exchange at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Medical Sciences and the affiliated teaching hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The visit provided an opportunity for both teams to discuss study planning and gain a shared understanding of the local clinical and research environment.

During the hospital tour, the LMU researchers visited several wards, evaluating the suitability for the study, observing routine clinical workflows and current hygiene practices. These observations helped inform discussions on which interventions could be most practical and beneficial in daily care. The visit also included a stop at the hospital laboratory, where the team learned more about the facility’s capacity for microbial diagnostics and drug monitoring, which will play an important role in supporting the study activities.
